YACKANDANDAH could be home to the world’s longest piece of bunting by Christmas.
The town is attempting to write itself into the Guinness World Records by making five kilometres of the decoration by hand.
Organiser Lauren Salathiel helped come up with the idea.
“I was thinking the world record would be something like 700 metres,” she said.
“It was a bit of a shock when I discovered it was five kilometres.”
The town started on August 1.
“Donations have been flooding in since we put out an appeal on Facebook,” Ms Salathiel said.
“We even got a piece from England with sneaky British flags sewn on them.”
The town has set themselves a deadline of December 7.
“The idea was to unveil the bunting at the town’s High Country Christmas Fair,” Ms Salathiel said.
“We have had community groups, businesses, schools all helping out.
“The project has forged connections with people who have never met before.”
The town still has a way to go.
“We have almost got over the one kilometre hump and now that we have been doing it a while we have momentum going,” Ms Salathiel said.
