COROWA lawn bowl gun Thomas Webb has qualified for the national championships.
Webb, 18, who has been juggling his sport ambitions and HSC studies at Corowa High School, not only qualified for the singles but also in the doubles and fours for February’s titles.
“It’s a very big deal,” Webb said yesterday.
“These are the open championships.
“I’ve played in under-18 nationals, but this is the best in the country.
“In the doubles and fours we are a realistic chance of making the quarter-finals and from there you just have to take your chances.”
Webb said it was a just reward for having fallen short at his first bid to qualify last year.
“That was in the Victorian open and I got within half a point of qualifying,” he said.
“But we went to Queanbeyan and played over the three days.
“When we made it to the quarterfinals that was enough to qualify for the nationals in Melbourne next February.
“It has been a bit tough with study but after the exams are over it will just be focus on February and practice, practice, practice.”
