THIRTY-FIVE years have not dimmed the love Simon George has for his job.
That is how long the Coles Centro Wodonga staff member has worked for the supermarket chain.
His colleague Helen McInnes has been with Coles even longer — she has just notched up 40 years in the job, having joined in 1973 after leaving school at 16.
“The best part about it is the variety,” she said.
“Sometimes I’m on the registers and other times I can be helping out in other departments or assisting customers on the shop floor.
“I love talking to the customers who come in to Coles — speaking to customers every day is definitely what I love most about my job.”
The pair’s 75 years of combined service was marked on Saturday when they received recognition awards.
They were given plenty of congratulations from fellow staff at a morning tea.
Mr George began working for Coles in 1979 when he was 23.
“I’m as keen as the day I started and can still remember what was going through my head when I came on board,” he said.
“I was working for a meat company and some colleagues of mine had moved across from that company to Coles.
“They told me that it was a great place to work and soon after I took their lead and got a job at Coles.”
Coles Centro store manager Andrew McGrath said their commitment to Coles had been hugely appreciated “and we look forward to working with them for many more years to come”.
