FIFTY-one teams have signed up for Albury Tennis Association’s Summer Pennant competition starting this Saturday.
Numbers are slightly down from the 57 teams registered last year, due to a drop in the number of ladies teams participating.
There are 16 ladies teams lining up across three grades, with just three teams in the top section.
The men, meanwhile, boast 35 sides over five divisions.
In the first week of action at Albury Grasscourts, Forrest Hill Galahs take on Thurgoona Cats in section 1 men.
Graeme Webb, Mick Reid and Rodney Wurtz with Andy Flores are all sure to feature for their respective teams.
The second encounter sees Graeme Wurtz and David Lake leading the way for Thurgoona Tigers against St Patrick’s-Diggerville Gold with Elias Tukoma and Aaron Breust.
Section 2 men has 10 teams taking part in what shapes as being a keenly contested competition.
For the season’s opening matches, Thurgoona Sharks play Wodonga Bushrangers, Forrest Hill Diggers take on Albury Gold and the Forrest Hill Galahs play Sacred Heart.
The Hornets, also from Forrest Hill, come up against Wodonga Bulldogs, with the Wodonga-SPD combination to host Albury Blue in Wodonga.
Another highly anticipated competition is amongst the 10 teams in section 3 men.
Competition in section 2 ladies will also be fierce, with eight teams, while there are five in section 3.
