YARRAWONGA recorded one of its hottest October days on record yesterday when the mercury hit 30.7 degrees at 1pm.
The town had also had about 30 degrees on Wednesday.
The temperatures fell just a little short of the record 31.4 degrees recorded on October 28, 1967.
Elsewhere in the region, Corowa and Rutherglen recorded 29.6 degrees, Albury 26 degrees and Benalla 26.9 degrees.
Falls Creek’s temperature rose to 10.6 degrees briefly and Mount Hotham to 9.5 degrees.
Sydney also fell short of recording its hottest October day with 37.3 degrees recorded just after 3pm yesterday for the city’s third hottest October day since records began 154 years ago.
The hottest temperature in NSW was recorded at Wilcannia, where it reached 42 degrees.
Merimbula’s temperature dropped from 33 degrees to 19 degrees in the space of 30 minutes when a cool change swept in from the ocean.
Cooler temperatures are expected today.
