CHILDREN in Wodonga were showing their philanthropic side yesterday.
A group of children were involved in decorating pots and planting herbs at the Felltimber Community Centre to sell at tomorrow’s Rotary community market in Wilson Street, Albury.
The children will attend the market and sell them for $5 each, with all proceeds to go to the Flutterby Foundation at Albury Base Hospital.
The Kids in Philanthropy project was organised as part of Wodonga Council’s Youth Leadership Program.
Kids in Philanthropy is a not-for-profit charity organisation based in both Melbourne and Sydney, which focuses on building social awareness and a practice of giving, in children and for children.
A Wodonga youth leadership participant, Natalie Howard, said the concept of children helping other children was terrific.
“They do some great things in both Sydney and Melbourne, like children donating their toys or pocket money,” she said.
“The children taking part in this program will come with us to present the money raised from the market.
“If we get enough interest we hope to make it a regular event.”
