POLICE say a driver whose foot slipped onto the accelerator drove through the glass doors of a shopfront at the Thurgoona Plaza yesterday.
An estimated $10,000-plus worth of damage was caused to the windows at Thurgoona News and Lotto after the Albury woman, 23, hit the accelerator while trying to park about 1pm.
Owners David and Andree Becker were shocked by the news.
“Luckily the woman was not hurt and that no one was walking past or was inside at the time,” Mr Becker said.
“There’s a considerable amount of damage.
“We got a quote on the automatic door and that was about $7000.
“One of the side windows was also smashed and there was damage to a newsstand and some of the stock.”
Mr Becker said the business would open today as normal.
Insp Kim Sorensen said the driver had been trying to park when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
“She has mounted the kerb and smashed through the glass security door,” he said.
He advised all motorists to concentrate at all times.”
The driver will receive a traffic infringement for careless driving.
