TEENAGE gun Cassandra Richardson has smashed a course record on her way to winning the women’s section of the Albury-Wodonga Triathlon Club’s duathlon at Allans Flat.
The Mount Beauty triathlete, 13, stopped the clock at 54 minutes 46 seconds for the two three-kilometre runs held either side of a six-kilometre bike ride.
Her time was more than two minutes faster than the previous best for the women’s group set five years ago.
But it was a day of records at Allans Flat with Joanne Deacon shaving nine seconds off her own record for the over 50s and Peter Mac-Lean breaking Fab And-reoni’s record in the over 50 men.
Club secretary David Gill said it was a strong day’s racing.
“Cassandra is just one of about 10 juniors who come down from Mount Beauty and they are very strong,” he said.
“To take so much time off that record is just amazing over that distance — she is certainly an emerging talent.”
Gill put the record breaking day down to near perfect conditions for racing with very little wind.
The club will return to Allans Flat for another duathlon in two weeks.
