WODONGA and District Turf Club will hold its annual Caulfield Cup day meeting on Saturday.
The highlight of the six-race card will be the $8000 Benchmark 64 Handicap (1400m) which has attracted strong nominations.
The Brian Cox-trained He’s An Angel has been allocated top-weight with 61 kilograms but could be a doubtful starter.
He’s An Angel is nominated for the Deniliquin Cup on the same day with a more favourable 57 kilograms.
Also nominated for the Benchmark 64 Handicap are Little Pablo, Dragon Head, Win For Wilson, Joranda Falls and Grassini.
The TAB meeting will be broadcast on Sky Racing 2 and has attracted a total of 139 nominations.
The club is holding a promotion for sporting clubs enjoying end-of-season celebrations.
For $25 patrons can get access to the Team on the Turf Sports Marquee that includes access to the XXXX Gold Mini Retreat, two free drinks and DJ Zuckr providing entertainment.
Club manager Tom O’Connor said the concept had attracted plenty of interest.
“We have already got nine football and netball clubs booked in from all over the state which is about 150 people,” O’Connor said.
The club will also hold a celebrity race, after the last race on the card, to raise money and awareness of ovarian cancer, in partnership between the Border Ovarian Cancer Awareness Group.
Gates open at noon with the first Caulfield race at 12.15pm and the first local race at 2pm.
