MEMBER for Benambra Bill Tilley has been put on notice not to forget Rutherglen when the town switches electorates next year.
Rutherglen is hometown to Ken Jasper, who was the member for Murray Valley for 34 years.
Mr Jasper said he was concerned the town could be overlooked for Wodonga and others including Beechworth and Yackandandah.
“I am disappointed personally because I represented it for so long,” Mr Jasper said.
“My concern is we will be over-run by Wodonga and its enormous expansion.
“The member will need to have particular responsibility to make sure Rutherglen doesn’t miss out and becomes an important part of the future development of North East Victoria.”
Benambra was the least affected locally by the boundary changes yesterday with the electorate also picking up Falls Creek, which formerly was in Benalla.
Mr Jasper also defended his support of member for Indi Cathy McGowan at the expense of Liberal Sophie Mirabella.
“My support for Cathy was on a particular issue,” he said. “I am a National Party member and I will be supporting the National Party going into the next election.”
