FARRER MP Sussan Ley says securing funding to upgrade Corowa’s saleyards is a “high priority”.
Corowa Council’s beleaugured bid for funding for the much-needed upgrade was repeatedly knocked back under the previous government’s Regional Development Australia Fund.
That fund is set to be scrapped and replaced with a $200 million a year national regions fund in 2015.
But Ms Ley said yesterday she wouldn’t wait for its roll-out.
She said she would seek to convene a round table of saleyards stakeholders to “discuss how to secure the saleyards in the future”.
“The agents are all committed,” she said.
“We will have to continue looking for other sources of support.”
