CRICKET Albury-Wodonga will take a new-look representative team into Saturday night’s Konica-Minolta Twenty20 Cup match against North Canberra Gungahlin at Lavington Oval.
Under the guidance of East Albury star James McNeil, CAW has named a 16-member squad with more than half the players set to make their debut for the association.
McNeil, Lavington pair Sam Harris and Jay Banks, New City wicket-keeper Will Brown, Wodonga’s Jack Robinson, Wodonga Raider Carl McGregor, Albury’s Kade Brown, St Patrick’s Jason van der Merwe and Crow Paul Conolly are among the new faces.
“The side is very specific towards Twenty20 cricket,” coach Trent Ball yesterday.
“There are a lot of all- rounders in the squad.
“Most of the side has done something over the first three rounds and we think we have most bases covered.”
CAW will play North Canberra Gungahlin at Lavington Oval at 7pm on Saturday before taking on Ginnendera at Billson Park the following day at 10am.
The players will be rotated after playing club cricket on Saturday afternoon.
Ball said the opposition would be formidable.
“North Canberra is Chris Cairns’ side, but I’m not sure if he will play,” Ball said.
“Djali Bloomfield plays for them as well and bowls sharp, around 140km/h, and he will be handy if he plays as well.
“We don’t know a lot about them though.
“We have played Ginnendera for the past few years and they are a really good bowling side.”
In the under-23s, CAW take on Murray Valley at Barooga on Sunday from 10am with Belvoir’s Mick Russell to captain the side.
The squads are: CAW open: James McNeil (c), Trent Ball, Sam Harris, Will Brown, Jason van der Merwe, Jay Banks, Ashan Ranaweera, Carl McGregor, Dan Dixon, Jack Robinson, Cameron White, Mark Butters, Paul Conolly, Kade Brown, Nat Sariman, Ned McCormack, Brendan Klein- Boonschate.
