BATHURST was very frustrating this year. We were running really strong at the end until Garth Tander came from nowhere with a lunge and took us off the track.
We can’t change the result but it’s still disappointing.
We didn’t go there to finish third. We went there to win.
It would have been a lot more disappointing if he’d knocked us out of the lead.
Tander has said since that I was blocking but I would have got a penalty if I was.
I was ahead of them for a long period and it was certainly a great battle.
But he overshot and took us with him. I don’t blame him for having a go. We were just unlucky.
You can’t sort these things out on the track. We’d just end up getting a penalty, knowing my luck.
Hopefully we just let our results do the talking and if we’re up the front we won’t be anywhere near him this weekend on the Gold Coast.
You need to be very good over the kerbs at this track.
You need a car that can handle the bumps and that you can be really accurate with because the walls are the edge of the circuit here and you need to drive with lots of commitment.
I haven’t got many good memories of Surfers over the years.
I had a big crash there in 2004 and I still haven’t scored a win and my best result was in 1998, so I’m looking forward to this weekend and trying to get a result.
I really enjoy the shortened circuit. It’s a much better V8 Supercar track since they cut out the two long, long straights and there have been some great races since it’s been shortened.
I’ve never even won a surfboard here and if I do, Brad Jones gets to keep it. But what would you do with a surfboard in Albury?
