TONIGHT will be all about the keepers when the stars of Border Hockey step out for the second round of Hockey 8s.
Favourite for the women’s draw Cosgraves Property Advisors will be without the services NSW goalkeeper, Jocelyn Bartram, while two young guns will be under the pump to perform in the men’s draw.
Organiser Ross Maggs said under-21 Victorian keeper Ben Hooppell has thrived on the hybrid game.
“His Hume Building Society side will be missing some key players but he really is in is element in this competition,” he said.
“They need to win one of their two remaining matches to play in the final.
“The dark horse in the men’s is the Gardens Medical Group who have three key inclusions this week — Matt Sawyer, Jacob Macvean and Ben Allen.
“They could easily leapfrog the top two teams as long as their young ACT under-15 goalkeeper Will Karaffa can continue his good form.”
Maggs said the women’s draw was still a relatively open affair.
“Health and Fitness Plus still have a chance to make the final but their captain Nan Latta admits they will have to win at least two of their last three to get there,” he said.
The Hockey 8s raises money for the Hilltop cancer accommodation units and to support development of junior hockey.
Play starts at 6.15pm.
