ALBURY Thunder forward Jon Huggett isn’t planning on doing a “Sugar” Shane Mosley and fleeing the country.
But he admits he would almost rather face Anthony Mundine in the ring at the Kinross Woolshed tomorrow night than his teammate Dion Belford-Laulu.
Huggett has seen Belford-Laulu spar in the gym and has been told on several occasions this week that the star centre was once on the under-card for a Joe Williams fight.
The pair, along with a handful of other Thunder players including Andrew Cowhan, Jake Grace and Mitch McLeod, are scheduled for exhibition bouts to raise funds for the Albury Junior Rugby League.
“I’m worried,” Huggett said yesterday.
Albury promoter Graeme Melbourne has 14 bouts scheduled with boxers from Parkes, Griffith, Corowa, Bendigo, Benalla, Wagga and Wangaratta taking part in the “Boxing Under the Stars” night.
Thunder coach Josh Cale said Belford-Laulu and Huggett had been exchanging plenty of good-natured banter.
“Don’t get there late,” Cale said.
Doors open at 6pm with the first bout at 7pm.
