Jacki Weaver: Hooray for Hollywood

When Jacki Weaver walks into the restaurant at the low-key West Hollywood hotel where we have arranged to meet, she is resplendent in a bright royal-blue tunic and red lipstick, with her blonde hair backcombed into a bouffant halo, and startling, fluorescent orange painted nails. My sense that a slice of the day-glo colours of 1980s Sydney has just manifested in the featureless beige of our surroundings is made complete when she orders a chardonnay. She gestures apologetically to her nails, peering at them as though they've suddenly appeared on her hands. "It's for the TV show," she explains with a shrug and a smile - the one with Rebel Wilson that she's shooting this week, a guest appearance.
