The proposed penny-pinching assault on families wishing to camp in Victorian National Parks by charging up to $59 per night is an affront to the community (The Border Mail, October 24).
This potential park fee introduction and increase would financially restrict families and others the basic experience of Australian bush camping and its pleasures — an Australian tradition that should be encouraged.
Perhaps this government would prefer to see our children stay home in the concrete jungle playing on computers, becoming obese or being tempted by drugs and alcohol rather than explore and enjoy the beauty of Australian bush and nature.
While other states provide and promote “free” camping for tourism and commerce, in Victoria Dr Napthine chooses to punish outdoor recreation people and local traders with this narrow-minded initiative.
Also, to callously price the public out of Victorian National Parks smacks of Greens influence.
