The 18-month-old was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital suffering life-threatening injuries after a ute crashed into a tree at Euroa just before 1am.
The ute was travelling south on the Hume Highway and had veered down an embankment before hitting the tree.
The male driver suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The south bound lane of the Hume Highway is currently blocked to traffic.
Meanwhile, a green Daewoo crashed into a bridge on the Lincoln Causeway in Wodonga early this morning.
The car was heading north when it struck the crossing near Diamond Park.
Two people were in the Daewoo with police still investigating the exact circumstances.
