By 4.30pm yesterday 78,141 separate users had accessed results online while 27,000 students had received an ATAR via SMS.
In total, almost 47,000 students received an ATAR, so many appeared to have checked their results multiple times.
Barry Wu was part of the inaugural graduating class of the select-entry Nossal High School in Berwick.
He arrived at school before 7am yesterday to log in with teachers, family, friends and media.
His result — 99.55 — should be enough for the Endeavour Hills resident to pursue a double degree in engineering and commerce.
“I didn’t really have an ATAR goal, but I still exceeded my expectations,” he said.
Social media was alight with people reporting their results.
At Woodleigh School in Langwarrin South, the school duxes were a pair of identical twins — Oscar and Tully Hiscock, who achieved ATARs of 99.65.
Balwyn High School saw 25 per cent of its 307 students achieve an ATAR above 95, while 23 students scored higher than 99.
McKinnon Secondary College noted that 13 of its students achieved 99 or higher while 48 per cent scored higher than 80.
Bialik College had 12 per cent of students attain at least 99.
AtRobertson Girls’ High School, 31 students had scored 99 or higher.
