After complaints of injuries from broken beer bottles, Wodonga Council and Goulburn Murray Water have erected new signs at entrances to Kookaburra Point, Jacksons Point, and the Ebden and Ludlows reserves reminding people of the ban.
Although the policy has been in force, this is the first year it will be actively enforced.
Wodonga Council compliance team leader Craig McClanahan said the policy was implemented after consulting lake users and community groups and includes glass bottles and containers.
“There have been a couple of instances where children have had glass in their feet and had several cuts and unfortunately had to be taken to hospital,” he said.
“Our officers will be patrolling the foreshores over the Christmas period — the public will see a high-profile presence.”
He said the policy encouraged people to do the right thing — a warning would be issued first time, but repeat offenders could expect a $100 fine.
