Son 'held 30cm knife to mum's throat'

A YARRAWONGA man will face court charged with holding a 30-centimetre knife to his mother’s throat and threatening to kill her, police said.

Yarrawonga police Leading Sen-Constable Rick Ellis said a family friend called police last Sunday to help a Yarrawonga woman, 59, who was attacked by her son.

Sen-Constable Ellis said the son, 26, approached his mother with a 30-centimetre knife in one hand and a baseball bat in the other at 1am.

He said the son held the knife to her throat and told her he was going to kill her.

Sen-Constable Ellis said the mother was uninjured, but “obviously very upset and frightened”.

He said the son fled before handing himself in to police later that day.

He was charged with serious assault charges including making threats to kill and bailed about 8pm on Sunday to appear at Cobram Magistrates Court at a later date.

Sen-Constable Ellis said the incident related to an ongoing domestic dispute.
