More than $20,000 has been spent on costumes and makeovers to “celebrate” the day the notorious gangster robbed the club of its gatetakings.
Member for Benambra Bill Tilley said the government put more than $11,000 towards the race day.
“The Squizzy Taylor Day race meeting is a fantastic initiative to attract the Towong community and those visiting the region to enjoy a fun and historically themed day at the races,” he said.
“This annual post-Christmas race day truly brings the community together and justifies the 2010 election commitment of the Coalition to get a race day back at Towong.”
Mr Tilley said activities and entertainment would include:
- Squizzy’s gang providing photo opportunities;
- prize giveaways for best-dressed;
- a jumping castle and face painting;
- rock climbing, ballooning and an animal nursery; and
- a live 1920s’ band.
Free buses will run from Corryong while a $10 subsidised return service will operate from Walwa, Cudgewa and Khancoban.
