The 18-year-old will drive Bank of Nova for uncle Chris McPherson in the first on the card at Albury’s traditional New Year’s Eve meeting. She drove her first winner at the weekend.

“The horse hasn’t had a lot of luck lately but he’s drawn to lead,” McPherson said yesterday.

“He begins like a rocket so we will go to the front and see what looks to take him on.

“If we get left alone, we will take beating.”

The Albury reinswoman is riding the high after her first win as a driver on Saturday night aboard a horse she also trains — Little Bad Girl.

She has had six drives for a winner.

“I named her but I’m nothing like that,” she said.

“I went to the front at Shepparton and got taken on by a 100-1 shot.

“In the end, I had to spot the odds-on favourite about 10 metres but got through along the sprint lane to nail them on the line.”

McPherson has worked around the stables for the best part of a decade and, six months ago, jumped into the driver’s seat.

“I wasn’t really interested before then but I had driven a stack of trackwork and in the trials,” she said.

“We do all the hardwork behind the scenes and then hand over to someone else to drive — it just didn’t seem right.

“But it will be very different at Albury — I’ll know a lot of people in the crowd and it is the club’s biggest meeting of the year.

“I just hope we go OK on the night.”
