Ezra was just 19, an apprentice mechanic with a passion for life, horses and pony club.
She was killed in a car crash on the Murray Valley Highway near Rutherglen in June last year when she fell asleep at the wheel as she drove back from a bachelors and spinsters ball at Hay.
Her father wants drivers to understand that it’s not a crime to stop and have a sleep if you’re feeling tired.
Fatigue can be as deadly on our roads as speed, drink or drug-driving.
Police say fatigue has played a major role in Border crashes this past year but it’s a tragedy that can be avoided with further discussion and planning among drivers and their families.
Every death on our roads impacts upon our community with a ripple effect, devastating mothers and fathers, partners, sons and daughters, siblings, friends and work colleagues.
We need to listen to the road safety messages delivered by police, because while the toll has fallen in recent years, we should be working to prevent every death.
