A PILE of green waste spontaneously combusted in Bright this afternoon, but fortunately firefighters were only four doors away.
CFA district 24 operations officer Mark Owens said the 50- to 80-metre pile of waste in Churchill Avenue spontaneously combusted in the heat about 1.30pm.
Four doors away were firefighters from the Department of Environment and Primary Industries.
"So they were quick on the job and getting it sorted," Mr Owens said.
He said firefighters would remain on scene pulling apart the waste and ensuring the fire was put out completely.
