Purtill, who plays off four, fired an opening round 73 to lead Mansfield’s Brandon Kay and Benalla’s Dale Crothers in the annual junior tournament.
Howlong’s Jake Eisenhauer leads the under-17s on 76 from Wodonga’s Liam Grantham, while Cobram’s Caleb Bovalino heads the field in the under-15s.
In the girls, Thurgoona’s Rachel Fellows fired an 81 to lead Thurgoona’s Steffi Vogel by three shots.
Forty-two players took part with play resuming for the second day of the two-day event today.
