Euroa Police believe speed contributed to the crash on the southbound lane of the Hume Freeway.
The woman died after her vehicle swerved off the road, crashed into a tree and burst into flames at about 7pm.
Euroa Police leading Sen-Constable Natalie Jubb said they were investigating the cause of the crash.
“We believe high speeds may have been involved,” she said.
The crash caused a grass fire between the two Euroa exits, but it was quickly under control.
