Heatwave rubs out matches

WANGARATTA and District and Brocklesby and District officials have abandoned today’s matches due to the heatwave.

With the temperature expected to reach up to 42 degrees, the associations have opted to take a cautious approach by putting player safety first.

The Holbrook association has left the decision to its clubs with a “gentleman’s agreement” in place in the respective matches.

CAW officials will meet at 10am today to decide whether Provincial and District matches will go ahead.

“Conditions can change quickly and we will be sticking to our original plan,” chairman Michael Erdeljac said.

“Hopefully we get a cool change coming through, but it doesn’t look like it.”

The Ovens and Murray and Albury and District bowls associations have called off today’s matches.
