The Border Medical Association Medical Student Scholarship will provide young doctors with financial support and mentoring, and is open to Year 12 students who have been accepted into medicine at any Australian university.
Albury hospital intern Bridget Josephs returned to her home town of Albury to complete her studies and said it was important students returned to the area.
“We’re a big area and we’re definitely growing. We need to be able to service the community,” she said.
“I love it here. I’ve got family and I like it here.”
The scholarship scheme was started in 1991 and has helped more than 100 students, providing them with a mentor for advice and encouragement.
The scholarship is also open to past high school graduates who now want to study medicine.
