Licensed wildlife carers Kylee Donkers and James Leonard, from Dutch Thunder Wildlife Care and Rescue in Koonoomoo, received the call from the mother and located the kangaroo on the banks of Dead River Beach on Monday.
Ms Donkers said the small adult female was tied around the neck and hind legs, with a soft drink can tied to her right front paw.
“This vulgar prank is in poor taste and whoever did this went to a lot of effort. I hope they get the message that such sick behaviour is not acceptable,” she said.
The Department of Environment and Primary Industries is investigating the incident and is calling on the public to assist in finding those responsible.
More to come.
