During road resurfacing works to start on Monday the highway will be reduced to two lanes over a three-kilometre section
All traffic will be restricted to travelling on the southbound carriageway, until works conclude in seven weeks time.
Speed limits of 40km/h and 60km/h will also be in place.
Member for Albury Greg Aplin said the works were occurring right on the edge of the Albury electorate, on a section of highway that had not yet received any roadwork.
The $3 million project was fully funded by the NSW government.
“This is essential work which involves removing a deep layer of road pavement and replacing it with concrete and asphalt to provide a smoother, more durable road surface,” Mr Aplin said.
“All motorists and emergency services workers are especially reminded that the Hume Highway at this location will not operate as a dual carriageway during this work.”
Work will be conducted Monday to Saturday, 6am to 7pm, for the duration of the project.
Access to properties will be maintained at all times.
The Kyeamba Gap Rest Area will be closed to traffic.
