It has been a horror start to the year for the Victorian road toll with two separate fatal crashes on Saturday.
A woman was killed in a two-vehicle smash in Docklands and a motorcyclist died in a head-on collision with a four wheel drive on the Mornington Peninsula, bringing the provisional road toll to 26, nearly double the number of fatalities from the same time last year when there were 14.
The woman, 34, was a passenger in a black Toyota Yaris, which collided with a white Toyota Landcruiser utility outside discount superstore Costco just after 10am.
The woman died at the scene and the driver suffered minor injuries.
Police reported the utility was travelling north on Footscray Road and the sedan as turning right into Waterfront Way when the smash occurred.
The other driver, a 29-year-old Sunshine man, is assisting police with their inquiries.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.
The motorcyclist was a 36-year-old Mount Eliza man who was riding in Boneo Road at Cape Schanck at about 3.40pm.
He died at the scene.
The man driving the car and his male and female passengers were not injured.Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
