This Saturday sees the resumption of junior pennants at the Albury grasscourts, along with a coaching clinic for kids aged seven to 14.
The program is designed to introduce rank beginners and novices to tennis, with the junior pennants a stepping stone to playing senior tennis in the afternoon.
Wurtz has been coaching for 40 years and draws on his experience to guide the youngsters through.
“It is about getting the technique right and they go from there, some are naturals and others take some time, it is like any sport,” he said.
“But you can go anywhere in the world and there will be a tennis court.”
Coaching and pennants start at 9.30am with the two-hour tuition costing $7.
“We start with the basics and once they can serve we throw them into the junior pennants,” Wurtz said.
“Some weeks they play sin-gles and some weeks doubles.
“Before Christmas we had about 12 in the pennant and 25 in the coaching clinic.”
