DOM Newnham has a word of advice for anybody still unsure whether they’ll head along to Sunday’s A-League clash between Perth Glory and Melbourne Heart.
Go, you won’t regret it.
Just over two years ago, Newnham was just like most other Australian soccer fans fan when it came to the A-League.
Semi-interested, but far more drawn by the sport’s much stronger European competitions.
Still, he gave it a try, heading to Melbourne with a few mates to watch the Heart draw 2-2 with Sydney.
He’s been hooked ever since.
“I love it,” the 18-year-old Albury-based Heart fanatic said.
“I’ve always been a huge soccer fan but the A-League never really appealed to me.
“I went to a game Heart played against Sydney with a few mates about two-and-a-half years ago and loved it ever since.
“The atmosphere and the fans are great.”
Newnham admits he was stunned when he found out the Heart was coming to town.
“Someone like Harry Kewell is playing in Albury — I never thought that would happen.”
Such is Newnham’s passion for Heart, he runs a Facebook page called “Albzside” — a take on the club’s Melbourne-based “Yarraside” supporter group.
The page, which has about 150 “likes”, has been posting regular updates about the fixture.
