There doesn’t appear to be any reason for the work to be delayed, so the question is why RMS won’t offer a start date for the project?
Cr van de Ven says he believes there is a reluctance on the part of the RMS to carry out the upgrade but whether or not that is the case, the RMS should be explaining the reason for the delay.
The traffic load at the intersection, particularly during daily peak periods, has increased since the internal freeway opened in 2007, confirming the need for a second turning lane that would ease the bottleneck.
Changes to the intersection were approved by the RMS in November, and Albury Council staff attended yesterday’s meeting expecting to learn the start date for the project, having provided quotations for the works.
Council engineering director Brad Ferris says signalling designs for the work are complete.
Cr van de Ven’s call for a start to the work is reasonable; this is a project that needs to get started.
