Quest helps firefighters stay cool in the heat of battle

THE last thing a firefighter needs in the heat of battle is a dry argument — you don’t want your hose to run dry or for you to go thirsty.

District 24 has the equipment to handle most tasks and now there is no reason to go short of a cold drink.

A $2000 donation yesterday from Quest Wodonga presented to operations manager Paul King for a water cooler has seen to that.

Quest franchisee Natasha Callewaert said the cooler was her way of giving back to the community.

Quest opened in August and Ms Callewaert said the first time she had filled all apartments was two months later — with firefighters.

“We had a call at 3pm telling us 80 firefighters were on their way from Melbourne to help fight NSW fires,” Ms Callewaert said.

“We had to run around and get everything ready and the next morning the car park was just full of trucks.”

Mr King said district 24 didn’t have the money for a cooler and the donation was a “pleasant surprise”.

“It’s important that we make sure our firefighters remain hydrated,” he said.

“Keeping them as cool as possible is a safety issue.”
