Howard Daniel was an avid and eclectic collector. A true renaissance man, Daniel’s passion to collect inspired his research for writing books and acquiring diverse sculptures and exotic figurines. Daniel was an empathic individual, advocating for human rights and became involved in international affairs. This took him into many countries; South America, Africa, Eastern Europe, particularly in Romania and Yugoslavia and China at the time of the Revolution. The Daniel Gift Collection came to AlburyCity through the offices of Mr. Justice J.F. Nagle, a long-time friend. The gift includes a Tang dynasty ceramic horse and rider, Chinese ivory figurines, Tibetan gilt bronze sculptures depicting fearsome-looking deities and Ashanti Gold weights from West Africa. This exhibition showcases these stunning Gods and Monsters.

This internationally acclaimed exhibition is the work of photographer Dulce Pinzón, showcasing 20 colour photographs of Mexican immigrants dressed in the costumes of popular American and Mexican superheroes. The tough realities of Hispanic immigrant life in New York and the heroic fantasy of comic-book characters fuse to create a powerful and humane critique of contemporary global economics. Each photo depicts the subject in their every-day work environment, and is accompanied by a short commentary including name, hometown, years working in New York and the amount of money sent to Mexico each week.

This enthralling exhibition explores the phenomenon of The Phantom, an American comic-strip character, popular throughout the world for over 75 years. Through a fascinating array of objects from private collectors, including posters, ceramics, rings, weapons, syroco figurines, comics, a throne and the submarine from the movie The Phantom; Slam Evil (1996), visitors will engage with the supporting cast and constantly changing story line and messages that has kept The Phantom legend alive over the decades.

WIRADJURI TALKBACK

Wiradjuri Talkback is a celebration of the perspectives and traditional knowledge of the Albury-Wodonga region’s Aboriginal people, showcasing a powerful and thought-provoking blend of traditional and contemporary elements illustrating the rich cultural traditions of Wiradjuri country. Alongside traditional Riverina bark paintings and tools are sketches by 19th century Aboriginal artist Tommy McRae, a local identity famed for his depictions of traditional Aboriginal life.

From a Lion wrapped in plastic to a man with an aerial in his hand and a bird on his head, photographers of the Australian Museum in Sydney are exposed to many unique visual opportunities in their daily working lives. Museum EXPOSED! provides an opportunity to put forward images from the museum’s photography department which may have never seen the light of day. The Army Museum Bandiana is among Australia’s best army museums where 190 army vehicles, dozens of field guns, weapons, uniforms, medals and items dating back as far as the 18th century are displayed in about 5000 square metres of display space. ANNE FRANK— A HISTORY FOR TODAY

This compelling exhibition carries a strong message for young people on the Border, with a unique insight into the history of the Jewish Holocaust from the perspective of Anne Frank and her family. Presented by the Anne Frank Stichting (Foundation), this international display uses original images and quotations from the Diary of Anne Frank. It depicts the most important developments of that time, the rise of national socialism, World War II and the persecution of the Jews. It shows how persecuted people can be affected by political decisions and the actions of individuals. It also provokes thought on the consequences the Anne Frank story has for today’s world. A set of teachers’ notes is available to allow teachers to take a self-guided tour of this exhibition. Annelies “Anne” Marie Frank (1929-1945) is one of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Her autobiography, The Diary of a Young Girl, has been the basis for several plays and films. Born in the city of Frankfurt am Main in Weimar Germany, she lived most of her life in or near Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Born a German national, Frank lost her citizenship in 1941. She gained international fame posthumously after her diary was published. It documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. Free entry. WOOLPACK IN MUSEUM, HOLBROOK
HOLBROOK’S HISTORICAL TREASURES

This large, unique and varied display of historical treasures includes the best collection of submarine artefacts in Australia. There’s also an exhibition on the Holbrook bypass. The Woolpack Inn Museum is a two story heritage listed historic building located in the main street of Holbrook. The original Woolpack Inn was opened in 1839 by John Mitten and continued trading until it was destroyed by fire in 1895. All of the items on display have been donated by local residents over many years and now fill 22 rooms, depicting life in the 19th century include bedrooms, dining room, sitting room, kitchen, pantry and laundry, along with a number of other rooms filled with interesting items from bygone years. Relocated and erected in the grounds is a drop slab school house, built in about 1872, a replica of the old Holbrook bakery, a blacksmith’s shop and a large collection of old machinery, wagons and coaches. SAM STAUGHTON — RETROSPECTIVE

Sam Staughton was born into the life of farming but was naturally inclined towards the visual arts. ‘Wolbunya’, the family property was his working life although he managed a full course of study at the National Gallery of Victoria and a tour of England and Europe before he returned to his family’s farming commitments. Marriage, children and continual farming did not stop his painting passion. Finally the farm was sold and Sam and his wife Marian and children moved to Melbourne. Sam was painting full time.
In the years that followed Sam held ten solo exhibitions, almost one a year, establishing himself as a highly committed and well liked artist amongst his peers and industry notables.

The Benalla Art Gallery permanent collection is one of the most important public collections of Australian art in regional Victoria and surveys Australian art history across the periods of the colonial, indigenous, impressionist, modernist and postmodernist eras. The Benalla Art Gallery collection includes a significant collection of historic and contemporary Australian landscape paintings, prints and works on paper, sculpture, ceramics and a growing collection of Australian contemporary art. The Corowa Collection showcases the prize winners in all sections of the annual Federation Art Show that have been acquired by the Federation Art Show Committee and held in trust by Corowa Council for the past 14 years. This is the first time that these art works have been displayed together as a collection and for many of these works it is the first time they have been on public display.
