A suspicious package thrown from a passing car ignited on impact in Kilmore, north of Melbourne, one of the areas affected by the bushfires.
The fire was extinguished by a person who saw the package thrown towards a bus stop about 5.30am on Tuesday in Kilmore-Lancefield Road, on the Willowmavin estate in Kilmore.
Local police, the bomb squad and the Country Fire Authority have rendered the package safe. Police are conducting further investigations of the package.
Kilmore-Lancefield Road has reopened between Conway Drive and Cullen Drive after being closed for the morning.
