Now a Sydney survivor of family violence has shared her experiences with Border residents.
She has put a human face on the rising statistics.
Lani Brennan told her Wodonga audience the incidence of domestic violence would continue to grow unchecked unless communities united to tackle the problem.
Miss Brennan’s story is not unique, but sharing it with a wider audience is less common and she aims to give hope to fellow survivors and communities affected by violence.
She said the provision of more refuge places for violence victims, as well as support for those who have their matters heard in court are just two ways in which improvements might be made.
Miss Brennan also encouraged the Border community to unite behind victims to give them the support to leave a violent situation and provide programs that tackle the potential for generational violence among affected households.
