Post office charge

THE manager of a North East post office has been charged with stealing a giftcard from the mail and has been dismissed.

Wodonga Detective Sgt Graeme Simpfendorfer said the woman, 53, was interviewed and charged with the theft of the $50 Bunnings giftcard on Tuesday.

She was bailed by police to make her first appearance before the Wodonga Magistrates Court on April 1.

Sgt Simpfendorfer said the alleged theft occurred in late November and involved one staff member.

It is understood she has since been dismissed from the post office.

Australia Post was confident the alleged theft was an isolated incident.
