The Wangaratta mother knew she had to do something to help.
Her family will stage a bushfire relief concert on February 27 at Wangaratta’s Gateway Hotel.
“I remember watching the news last month with all these families standing around with nothing, all their possessions gone,” she said.
“I thought: “Crikey, we have to do something”.
The Hot Summer Night event will feature raffles, food and entertainment by jazz bands and vocalists Paris Zachariou, Glenn Starr and Amanuael Visser.
“The community have been great, donating items to raffle and buying tickets to the event,” she said.
“He have already sold 100, so we have 100 tickets left ... we expect to sell out.”
Mrs Visser said all money raised on the night would be given to the Salvation Army to distribute to those most affected by the fires.
“We hope to make it an annual event for Wangaratta because there seems to be bushfires every year in Victoria,” she said.
“This could be our social charity event of the year.”
Tickets are $30 and available from Edgars Newsagency by phoning (03) 5721 3758 or the Salvation Army Store (03) 5721 2688.
