The wider community will no doubt be shocked at this environmental vandalism and the killing of trees, apparently by those seeking a source of free firewood.
Holes drilled in the trunks of the affected trees had been filled with a suspected herbicide, destroying some which were 200 years old and including protected species.
This vandalism must have been seen by someone, given the public location of the trees affected and their proximity to the residential area in Norris Park.
Anyone who has information must come forward and speak with the council, ensuring those responsible are identified and face the appropriate charges and fines.
The preservation of our bushland and established trees is something the council and other authorities work hard to maintain, providing adjoining residential areas with an attractive outlook and ensuring the maintenance of habitat for native animal species.
The message to the community must be this kind of damage is simply not on.
