There are many variables when looking at one school against another, the many things that cannot be measured by tests.
So the tangible information that is put into the hands of schools and parents and the general community with NAPLAN results makes it easy to draw conclusions, even if they are just part of the picture.
The latest results have shown Albury-Wodonga’s government high schools are not performing as well as their private counterparts.
But Charles Sturt University education expert Professor Bob Perry warns the results need to be interpreted with great caution.
He says that while they are important for teachers in individual schools, the schools cannot be compared on the results alone and that the performance being measured is based on one day alone.
The information is a great tool for both parents and teachers if we keep in mind that we must only compare like with like.
