Police said the man, 40, and his female passenger, 48, were travelling in a dual-cab ute on the Great Alpine Road about 11.45am when the ute and a car collided.
The man was flown to The Alfred Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the woman was taken to Wangaratta hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the other car, a Wangaratta man, 18, was uninjured and has been interviewed by police.
Sen-Constable Patrick Murray, of Wangaratta Highway Patrol, said the incident was a reminder that drivers needed to be vigilant at all times and drive at a speed suitable for the conditions.
