A female employee, 50, of a licenced premises in Buller Street, Oaklands, was closing the business up for the night at 1am.
Albury police Inspector Tony Moodie said a man, who had concealed his face, was in possession of a firearm and took hold of the employee.
He forced her to hand over cash from a safe and cigarettes before leaving.
