After collecting the wooden spoon last season and forfeiting four matches due to dwindling numbers, the Magpies have hit back strongly by dropping only one match this season.
“It didn’t look like we would get going again this year, so it’s been a good effort,” Balldale captain Pat Mitchell said.
“Things were pretty grim.
“Hopefully we have another win left in us.”
Balldale will start as underdogs after winning thrillers against Burrumbuttock in the past fortnight and Mitchell conceded his team would need to lift with the bat to stop the Pigeons.
James Kreutzberger has no such problems, with the reigning premier regularly knocking up scores over 200.
“Rand is really strong with the bat,” Mitchell said.
“But I rate our bowlers really highly and hopefully we can hold them.
“We will continue to play our shots and hopefully they come off.”
Balldale has received a bonus with veteran all-rounder Doug Lavis returning to the team.
Play starts at 1.30pm.
