But while he waits for that decision, Mr Ryan can only sleep upright on his couch and he has been forced to take extended leave from his job and spend his savings to meet his expenses while he cannot work.
The TAC says it is processing a formal surgery request submitted six weeks ago after Mr Ryan’s general practitioner requested his claim be reactivated in August.
The matter is now before a clinical panel which is awaiting further medical advice as the TAC examines all the information it has available to it related to Mr Ryan’s accident almost two decades ago.
The delay is frustrating for Mr Ryan, who has been unable to find any long-term relief from his pain via other medical procedures.
Hopefully the TAC will decide the matter as a time critical application and be able to give Mr Ryan the answer he seeks.
