HENTY CIVIC CENTRE
HENTY ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION
MARCH 21 TO 23
This year’s theme includes Fine Art in Fabrics and Feathers. Opening night: 7pm Friday, March 21 — admission, finger food and glass of wine - $20. Peoples Choice Award for Photography awarded on opening night. Open 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, admission $5. Opening night will see the unveiling of the Show Society’s 100th Anniversary Quilt in its new protective case. The quilt comprises panels which feature 60 district organisations that were iconic to our lives in the Henty district. It is a lovely item of social history and the protection of this quilt has been a major reason for the previous art and photography exhibitions. It is intended to re-publish the booklet that tells the story of each panel. Please contact Kerrie Scholz on 0427 939 121 if you would like to buy a copy. The exhibition includes the theme “Fabric, Feathers and Fotos” with quilting, art and photography from local and guest exhibitors on display. The exhibition is an event designed to showcase our work and inspire us for future exhibitions and displays. So often we have an ‘I didn’t know you could do that!’ or even an ‘I might be able do that’ moment. It is also a vehicle for budding artists, photographers and needleworkers to get together to help and encourage each other. At last year’s inaugural Art and Photography Exhibition more than 140 photographic images were on display, ranging from close-up macro work to night-time long-exposure imaging. Landscape, wildlife and flower compositions were also very popular subjects. We are looking forward to seeing new styles of photography and images that have a different perspective. On Sunday, guest suppliers will set up in the Blue Room and there will be a trading table to help fund the improvement of the Civic Centre performance space.

Norma Redpath, John Meade, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Stephen Benwell and Paul Selwood. MARK STONER: THE SHAPE OF THE LAND
UNTIL APRIL 16
“The shape of land is evocative of our imaginings of landscape and poses several questions. What is land, its form and material? Do we imagine verdant rolling hills, an infrared mineralogical survey map, a topographical map of the high country, or a degraded saline ancient drainage basin? Is landscape a romantic vista of plains and far off mountain peaks or an analytical outcome of complex interactions of time, geomorphic forces and weathering?” - Mark Stoner 2013. This exhibition explores these themes bringing together various installation pieces for the first time. Mark Stoner has exhibited nationally and has received several grants and residencies. His work is held in the collections of state and regional galleries including the National Gallery of Australia and he has also completed many public commissions.
UNTIL APRIL 23
FAMILIAR ENVIRONMENTS: ANTHEA KEMP:
Anthea Kemp focuses on her reaction to an introduced urban environment in which she now lives, in comparison to the familiar natural landscape she grew up in. With the Warby Ranges at her back door for 18 years, Kemp then moved to Melbourne. It is through her subconscious reaction to the urban and the natural, the organic and the geometric, that she has juxtaposed an abstract landscape in her paintings.

Sitters included Tucker’s colleagues in the so called Angry Penguins group or ‘Heide circle’ — Joy Hester, Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd and John Perceval.
