LIVE COVERAGE: 2014 Albury Gold Cup

5.51PM: Favourite Play Master has taken out the final race of the day, storming home in the late stages to win the visitnsw.com Albury Chall. (1175m). The 5yo gelding, trained by Benalla's Peter Smith paid $3.10 on the tote for the win. 

Back To The Bar and Glowstick rounded out the placings, while the Brett Cavanough-trained Strada's Diamond was a late scratching at the barrier.

5.20PM: The last race of the meet is up at 5.40pm, the visitnsw.com Albury Chall. over 1175m. Lexical Ambiguity and Bangatang have been scratched, with 5yo gelding Play Master the $3.90 favourite.

5.08PM: Brett Cavanough has claimed the Flat Knacker (900m) for the second year running, this time winning with The Monstar, who closed at the line to overrun Rose Of Falvelon, with Who's Paying finishing third.

"He's a nice little horse," Cavanough said of the 3yo gelding.

"He had a really good time in his run at Gundagai and I think he's much better running off the back."

4.50PM: Smart mare Sumakaray is the $2.50 favourite for the penultimate race of the day, the Somerset Rise Flat Knacker over 900m. Six horses have been scratched, Fab Fevola, Just A Bullet, The Bounty Queen, Override, Sahara Night, and McGovern.

Rose of Falvelon, with Damien Oliver aboard is also fancied at $3.00 on the tote with the Brian Cavanough-trained The Monstar ($5.20) also in the running.

4.25PM: Kathy O'Hara has become the second female jockey to win the Albury Gold Cup after steering Canny Ballad ($7.10) to a thrilling win.

The Guy Walter-trained 4yo gelding flashed home on the outside to beat home Price of Glory while Walter's second runner Jacquinot Bay placed third in a blanket finish.

4.05PM: We're just 15 minutes away from the big one. The 2014 Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup. Both Tanby and Zabeelionaire have been scratched, while Jacquinot Bay - with Blake Shinn aboard - is the narrow $4.90 favourite on the tote, ahead of Mourinho ($5.40) and Massiyn ($5.50).

3.45PM: The Gai Waterhouse-trained Ryker has taken out the Myer Albury Guineas (1400m) with Tim Clark aboard in a time of 1.23.61. Paying $9.70 for the win, Ryker mowed down early pacesetter Fuerza before holding on from the fast finishing Just A Blur, who flashed home out wide. Without A Shadow finished third.

3.34PM: Race 5 is the Myer Albury Guineas over 1400m. Trainer Bede Murray likes his chances of a third winner today with O'Reilly's Revenge a $3.30 favourite on the tote, while Blake Shinn is looking for a second straight winner.

3.05PM: Jockey Blake Shinn has overcome a wide barrier draw to steer Sankara Spirit to a dominant win in the Lexus of Wodonga Handicap. The win over 1400m gives trainer Bede Murray a double for the day so far.

"His form has been excellent this preparation," Murray said.

"He could perhaps win a city race; he's an honest horse and I think putting the blinkers on him today was the key."

Favourite Sadaqa finished second with Triple King rounding out the placings.

2.52PM: The Lexus of Wodonga Handicap (1400m) is up next. There have been three scratchings already, with Ailuros, My Promise and Cognac King all withdrawn. Sadaqa, with champion hoop Damien Oliver aboard, is the $3.30 favourite ahead of Sankara Spirit ($4.40) and Keep 'Em Guessing ($6.50).

2.31PM: 6yo gelding Surzeal - trained by Wagga's Trevor Sutherland - has flashed home to be a shock winner in the $30,000 Adrian Ledger Memorial (2400m). Paying $22 for the win, Surzeal cost owner Fiona Watson $300 and claimed prizemoney of $17,460. Haiti and the John Ledger-trained Justiceforall filled the minor placings, while Sesentum finished fifth.

2.23PM: Race 3 is not far away, the Adrian Ledger Memorial (2400m). Sesentum, trained by Gai Waterhouse is the $2.50 favourite on the tote, with Arctic Grey and Justiceforall also fancied.

1.55PM: The Bede Murray-trained Chosen Song has taken out race 2, the Protector Alsafe Mile (1600m), with Ceccanti a fast-finishing second and Sand Dune third.

1.43PM: After opening at double-figure odds, the Peter Gelagotis-trained Mourinho is the new Cup favourite at $4.80.
