Grant Leverington, 29, of Carlton, took out Gentleman of the Day in an outfit put together by his milliner fiancee, with Michael McAlpine, 53, of Richmond coming runner-up.
Lisa XU of Lady of Leisure Millinery, who was a contestant in the millinery and Lady of the Day, made Mr Leverington’s red, white and blue polka dot bow tie and pocket square.
The couple matched the accessories with a navy hat and three-piece Dom Bagnato suit.
Not a big fashionista himself, Mr Leverington said he was more at the event for the horses and beers.
“It’s slightly embarrassing, but I’m happy for my fiancee, she loves the fashions and has been harassing me to do it,” he said.
“We kind of have a rule that I’ll do it interstate, so she was like ‘it’s just across the border, you’ve got to enter’.”
Mr McAlpine wore a maroon, grey and navy matching outfit from his Cavalli hat down to his Declic socks.
His suit, tie and shoes were all by Jack London.
Mr McAlpine, a seasoned fashion of the fields entrant, came runner up for the second year in a row, but said he would be back the next to try for a third time lucky.
“Are you silly? Of course I’ll be come back,” he said.
